The Chattanooga Amateur Radio Club is pleased to offer classes for those wishing to obtain their amateur radio license. We also offer monthly test sessions. Our monthly test sessions are normally on the first Thursday of each month right before our monthly club meeting. Usually FCC Test Sessions begin at 6 PM followed by our club meeting at 7 PM.
Note: We normally do NOT have FCC Test Sessions in July or November. Field Day is in late June and we are normally too exhausted to have a test session in early July. Hamfest is usually in late October. It has its own FCC Test Session so we do NOT normally have a November FCC Test Session as most candidates take their test at Hamfest.
VE Exams for FCC License.
Art Parry, WB4BGX, is the V.E. Team Leader for the Chattanooga Amateur Radio Club.
Those wishing to test for any class of license or to upgrade must contact the Volunteer Examiners Team at email@example.com or via phone at 423-667-6950 (Art Parry, WB4BGX).
If there are no pre-registered license applicants, a testing session will not be conducted. If you do not pre-register, you run the risk of there not being a testing session at all.
You must confirm testing times and locations by contacting the Volunteer Examiners Team.
Anyone wishing to take a test, must contact the VE Team by the Thursday prior to the requested test date so that a full VE Team can be assembled for your test. Three (3) VEs are required for any license testing.
- Remember that Chattanooga is in the Eastern Time Zone.
- Testing fee: $15 (cash or debit/credit card).
- Multiple Tests.
If you pass a test, you may take the test for the next level without additional charge; however, you must do so within the same test session. For example, if you pass the Technician test, you may take the General without paying an additional fee. If you pass the General, you may take the Extra without paying an additional fee provided that all are done within the same test session. If you plan to attempt multiple tests, please be aware that while there is no specific time limit for taking a test, the testing room is normally only available until approximately 9pm. This allows for almost three hours to do testing. Please make sure you arrive well before the scheduled session start time, prepare, & study for testing in such a way as to complete the test(s) in the available time as well as be mindful of the time constraint during the test session(s). We do not have the ability to relocate the test session(s) if you are not finished within the time that the testing room is available.
- Picture ID or two other ID’s such as library card, voter registration, etc.
- For a license upgrade: Bring your original license and a copy. The VE Team will keep the copy and return the original to you.
- Any CSCE and a copy that you want considered. The VE Team will keep the copy and return the original. There will not be a copier available so please bring your own copies.
Note: Calculators that have been initialized, i.e., reset to their “off the shelf as if brand new” condition, i.e., may be used if desired. No formulas or stored amateur radio-related information shall exist in calculators, mobile, or electronic devices during testing.
